What to do when your web developer disappears
The site is still up, or it is not. Emails bounce. Nobody knows where the domain lives. This is a recovery job, not a redesign yet.
Get the accounts into your name
Domain registrar, hosting, Google, the email product, the store. If those sit in a contractor’s login, they can take the shop with them. Recovery is possible more often than owners think, but it is slower than handing over the keys on day one.
Document what is actually running
What theme or custom code, what plugins, what payments, what forms. Take a backup before anyone “just updates WordPress.” Then decide: keep it running, or rebuild because the old stack costs more than a new site.
Do not start with a new logo
First: HTTPS, backups, the contact form, and a page Google can read. Pretty comes after the shop can take a call.
We pick up projects like this. Ask about a takeover.
